STATEMENT

I am interested in the frameworks through which we come to see an object as what it is.

Frames, cubes, pedestals, snow, found objects.
Many of the things I work with already possess forms, functions, and meanings.

I apply simple operations to them.

Framing.
Painting white.
Erasing.
Covering.
Placing.

Through these operations, I observe the moment when existing meanings and ways of seeing begin to shift, and something else emerges.

My practice moves in two directions: FRAME and UNFRAME.

FRAME is the act of giving the world a frame.

A frame ordinarily forms a boundary through which we view something—a painting, a landscape, an image.
I treat the frame itself as sculpture, transforming it into three dimensions, repeating it, and expanding it until the frame through which we see becomes the object of seeing.

UNFRAME performs the opposite operation.

Found objects already carry layers of information: color, logos, brands, functions, differences in material, and cultural associations.
By painting, erasing, or covering them in white, I attempt to remove the existing frameworks through which those objects are understood.

For me, white is not simply a color.

White is an operation for reducing information.

Yet removing meaning does not make the object itself disappear.

As information recedes, things previously concealed behind meaning begin to emerge: form, mass, surface, damage, light, shadow, and time.

FRAME gives a frame.
UNFRAME removes a frame.

One constructs.
The other releases.

Yet both arise from the same question:

What makes us see a thing as what it is?

I do not seek to bring my works to a definitive state of completion.

I intervene in materials and objects, and when their appearance shifts and a certain state emerges, I stop.

Leaving what follows undetermined is also part of my practice.

My works do not aim for completion.
They simply stop where they are.

For me, making is not about finishing. It is about knowing where to stop.
